Dear Shrink Rap Radio Listeners,
First of all I want to let you know that 1. there will be no podcast this week and 2. My family and I are fine! We live in Rohnert Park which is about 10 miles south of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, California.
The night before last, numerous wildfires broke out in Sonoma and neighboring Napa counties. High winds spread sparks turning these into wildfires. At the moment, none of them are contained. Santa Rosa has lost approximately 1,500 structures, businesses and homes (and whole neighborhoods). This is very shocking. While other areas of California frequently have wildfires, this is a first for this region in 40 years or more. Our neighborhood, so far, is untouched. Several close by were under mandatory evacuation yesterday. My wife and I voluntarily evacuated our house yesterday and spent the day with our daughter and her kids some miles South of here. We decided to come back to our house last night. The air is heavy with smoke and not good for breathing. We are concerned that the winds may whip up again tonight.
I did have this week’s Shrink Rap Radio interview scheduled for yesterday but needed to postpone it.
I fully expect to be back on the air with the show next week.
Unrelated to the fires, I’ve been having big email problems and shrink@shrinkrapradio.com has not worked in the past 5 days or so. If you wish to write, you can use vannuysd@sonoma.edu
Thanks for you r concern and support!
“Dr. Dave” (David Van Nuys, PhD)
Been wondering about you David. Here in Australia we are all too familiar with the devastation caused by wildfires and you have been on my mind. Glad you posted the update and so glad you and your family are safe. It’s a terrible situation. All the best.
Dear Dave,
Thank you for your personal note of the situation you are facing and I hope the fires will cease very soon with as little damage as possible. I am glad you are safe and hope the whole area will be restored soon. My warm compassionate wishes to you and your family. No worries about the podcast!
