Betsy Byler, MA, LPC-SAS, ICS, LPCC decided when she was 16 to become a therapist. A difficult teenager she’d seen and fired therapists until she found a therapist that could get through to her. That experience inspired her to work with angry teenagers and work to give others that same experience of being really “heard.” Working with dual diagnosis clients has been a passion of hers since the early days of her career and she has spent the years since running outpatient mental health and substance abuse programs, in addition to training therapists to work in the dual diagnosis space.
She makes her home with her family in the woods of Northern Wisconsin. It’s a very different scene than growing up in Chicagoland and she wouldn’t have it any other way. In her work life, it was a difficult choice to leave agency life for private practice, but the time seemed right. The move into private practice and the following pandemic provided time to work on a new venture, the podcast. Betsy is passionate about bridging the gap between our training and the need for mental health therapists who know how to treat addiction. The podcast, All Things Substance, is the place for therapists to gain the information they need to treat substance abuse in addition to mental health.
