- Received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan
- Is a licensed psychologist
- Has been in practice for more than 40 years
- Was a consultant to the Student Counseling Center, California State University at Northridge
- Was a consultant to the Marianne Frostig Center for Exceptional Children, Pasadena
- Was a consultant to the California Youth Authority Center for Delinquency Control, South Central Los Angeles
- Was the Founding Campus Dean of the California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University, Los Angeles; currently holds the post of Founding Dean Emeritus and Distinguished Professor
- Formerly Editor of the journal PSYCHOTHERAPY: Theory, Research, and Practice
- Served as a consultant on health care reform appointed by the American Psychological Association’s Committee for the Advancement of Professional Practice
- Teaches and trains doctoral candidates studying psychology and masters candidates studying marriage and family counseling
- Counsels individuals, groups, couples, families, and adolescents; works with individual and family developmental adjustment impasses; does executive coaching, couples counseling about marital distress, family and parent counseling, mediates separation and custody disputes, and teaches coping skills to those with chronic illnesses or their caretakers
- Supervises and consults with other health and mental health professionals

- Recipient of Distinguished Professional Psychologist Award conferred by the Division of Psychotherapy, American Psychological Association
- Former President of the Division of Independent Practice and also of the Division of Psychotherapy, American Psychological Association
- Awarded an American Psychological Association Presidential/Board of Directors’ Citation for a career of distinguished service to the Association
