I read The Secrets of Medical Marijuana about a year ago and then recently a friend who knew I had personal reasons for exploring the potential of the medicinal use of cannabis sent a link to an interview Barbara did where she discussed the book. I was impressed with Barbara’s knowledge and long term personal and professional experience with it and how it has figured in her own journey, which is extraordinary to say the least. I hoped it would be something you were willing to follow up as I knew you would treat the subject with sensitivity and open mindedness and I’m so glad you took up my suggestion. It didn’t disappoint.
There are a couple of queries that came out of the interview that I wondered about, so hopefully Barbara will answer them here as I’m sure others would also be interested. The first is that she didn’t quite explain what being a respiratory therapist entailed, apart from her own unorthodox treatment. The other query is about her recovery from the back surgery. I know that such surgery often has a poor prognosis and she obviously had a protracted recovery time. I wonder how it has panned out long term?
The You Tube video she mentioned with Raphael Mechoulam is here https://youtu.be/oQDJi6Jb8d4 and is well worth a look. What a beautiful man. There is a delightful scene towards the end where he is sitting on stage during a ceremony where he is receiving one of his many awards. His granddaughter is in the audience and he playfully engages her and waves with the tassels on his mortar board. There is also the surprising mention of how the US NIH supported his research for over 40 years. A lot of good things come out of Israel. I was reminded of Nathan Erhlich’s Israel Story and wondered if he had tried MM.
There is also a CNN documentary https://youtu.be/Tex0vfwejWU which is worth looking at, that tells the story of Charlotte’s Web, the selected strain of Cannabis that had a profound effect on a 5yo girl’s life threatening seizures.
Thanks David and Barbara. It looks like things are starting to move along in Australia with the legalising of the availability of MM, due mainly to a public pressure. The more publicity the better. I don’t presume that MM is a magic bullet – of course everything has it’s problems but what could be more problematic than the way medicine is being done now?
